Millennials Altering Traditional American Values

Millennials are classified as those born from 1980-2000. They have impacted society by changing social norms and altering traditional American values. Some changes are positive and others are negative, but Americans must learn to adapt in the midst of change. Millennials have turned the American standards and values upside down; they make less money, get married later, by houses later and value money more than quality. Millennials have very different values and opinions than that of the generations before them. Their values and opinions have begun to affect the workplace, politics and various industries. Studies have shown that millennials prefer to do meaningful work rather than having a mundane that provides no fulfillment. Millennials have changed the workplace with their desire to be hands on in any task possible. An article from Forbes stated “Millennials are not wallflowers. They want to be part of the action. The average age at marriage is on the rise, in the 1970’s the average was 23 while it has now risen to 30 years old. Millennials place more value on their careers and as a result, settle down later on in life. The changing hierarchy of needs can be shown by that fact that 30% of millennials do nat plan to buy a car in the near future and that buying a house is important, but not a big priority. It has recently become “trendy” to have a healthy lifestyle, and the millennials are to thank for this. They are more focused on living a healthy lifestyle. Millennials eat healthier, exercise more and smoke WAY less than any other generation.
