Misjudging The Characters In Walk Two Moons By Sharon Creech

It is important for you to know someone before you judge them because in the book Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech a girl named Phoebe Winterbottom learns not to judge someone before you know them. All the characters in my essay are named Phoebe, Mike, Mrs. Winterbottom, and Mrs. Cadaver. In Walk Two Moons, Phoebe contributes to the theme of the novel, which is, “Don’t judge a man until you’ve walked two moons in his moccasins,” when she misjudges The lunatic, Ms. Cadaver, and Her mom.

One character that Phoebe misjudges is her mom. In Walk Two Moons, phoebe says,“'Who knows? I'm sick of it. My mother can stay there for all I care. She doesn't need me. She doesn't need any of us.”(240) This proves that Phoebe was misjudging her mom because

Cadaver. In Walk Two Moons, phoebe says, “'Maybe there is something hidden under the bush, Phoebe said. 'Like what?' 'Like a dead body. Maybe Mr. Birkway helped her chop up her husband and bury him and maybe they were getting worried and decided to disguise the spot with a rhododendron bush.”(86) This proves that Phoebe misjudges Ms. Cadaver because Phoebe thought that Ms. Cadaver was hiding a dead body under the Rhododendron bush. In Walk Two Moons, Mr. Birkway says, “But, she didn't murder him, her husband died when a drunk driver rammed into his car. My mother - Mrs. Partridge - was also in the car with Mr. Cadaver. She didn't die, as you know, but she lost her sight.” (218)This proves that there wasn’t really a dead body under the Rhododendron bush and Ms. Cadaver never murdered her husband so phoebe shouldn’t have judged Ms. Cadaver. In conclusion, Phoebe was wrong about judging Ms. Cadaver because just because her last name means a corpse doesn’t mean that she murdered someone.

A final character that Phoebe misjudges is Mike. In Walk Two Moons, Phoebe says, “Do you detect any signs of lunacy? There does not appear to be any place he could be hiding a gun.”(43) This proves that Phoebe was judging Mike for being a lunatic because of what her mom had told her. In Walk Two Moons, Mrs. Winterbottom says, “'This is my son.”(248)This proves that Mike was Mrs. Winterbottom’s son and so Phoebe shouldn’t have judged Mike for being
