Mitosis and Meiosis
Both mitosis and meiosis play key roles in the life cycle of a cell. Infact, any living organism , including humans, cannot even live without the microscopic cells inside of them. But how do the cells get there? The answer is mitosis and meiosis. These two important processes have many similarities, but they also show many distinct differences. These similarities and differences have a great impact on how the cell reproduces.
There are many similarities between them, and here are a few key similarities. First of all, both mitosis and meiosis are forms of reproduction, and in the end both will end up making new cells. Also, they both occur in the human body, which is really interesting because a person has all that going on in trillions of cells all at one time. Another thing that they have in common is that in both processes, cytokinesis occurs. Yet another similarity in these two reproduction forms, is that chromatids are split in both. Additionally, for both to occur, centrioles are needed. These similarities show how these processes are alike, but there is also many distinct differences. …show more content…

A very major difference is that mitosis is asexual reproduction, and meiosis is sexual reproduction. This leads to mitosis only being able to be used by body cells, and meiosis can be used by sex cells. Furthermore, in the end, there will even be a different number of cells made for each one, with mitosis ending in two cells and meiosis ending in four cells. To get to the end product of new cells, mitosis takes six steps, while meiosis takes only four steps, which are shown in these two graphs, with mitosis on the right and meiosis on the
