Sports are competitive activities that improve a person’s physical ability and also serves as entertainment for spectators. Sports have many benefits like longer life, increased energy, and employment and revenue for some. Although some people may agree with Donald R. Vroon’s claim that sports are for the stupid people, his argument is flawed because smart students can be athletes, most athletes are good role models, and universities are higher education institutions set up to impact knowledge and prepare students for their careers therefore they are more interested in impacting knowledge than winning trophies.

Vroon’s notion about athletes is sort of a scary one because he believes that parents have failed if their children want to be an athlete but this should not be the case because; according to Donald R. Vroon, “6 out of 10 Americans considered athletes the best role models children can have!” (49). This survey shows that majority of Americans believe that athletes can have a good impact on children’s lives and parents who raised athletes have succeeded as parents because they raised paragons. According to Vroon, a statistic from the New York Times revealed that 3.7 percent of the American populace were uninterested in sports (49). This information makes it clear that 96.3 percent of the population of America is interested in sports which makes sports the best platform to unite people. The cultural diversity of athletes on a team preaches togetherness and sends a message to sport fans to unite with one another and fight racism.
