What exactly is social media? Merriam-Webster dictionary defines it as communicating in an electronic form using websites for networking and blogging. Communities are created to share information for both personal and business use; videos are also considered a part of social media.
Some colleges, such as Rutgers, the University of Florida and the University of Southern California are now offering programs in social media in response to the need for these skills.
Why is it important in the business world? Why not just mail out flyers, letter or other means of communication to the masses? The answer is that overall it is more cost-effective and immediate.
