Through 1750 to 1914 industry dramatically changed the economy and social classes. Beginning in the early 1750s many countries switched from a agricultural society to a more industry based society. The invention of the steam engine allowed for many changes to take place, steam was a reliable source of power for many machines that could produce more rapidly than human beings ever could. Steam power also had great uses in the field of transportation, steam powered trains allowed people to travel more distance in a day than the previous generation could in a lifetime. These great advances in technology caused a rapid expansion in urban areas causing people to move from rural areas in search of greater economic opportunity.
The early Transportation Revolution had a lot to do with this. The Transportation Revolution was a series of transportation innovations that linked local and regional markets, creating a national economy. New inventions such as the steam boat, perfected by Robert Fulton in 1807, created a major boost in domestic trade; this majorly implemented the economy. Also, the Lowell factory system created a way of employment in women and children, helping households by having another source of income, and helping the economy by providing a fairly cheap way to get more factory-made goods that were in high demand. The reason for this continuity is the way these movements created a more stable economy for the country.
During the late 1700s through the mid-1800s, there was a revolution that started. Many people came up with ideas while others just worked off those ideas. Many of those inventors during this revolution include Eli Whitney, John Deere, Jethro Wood, Robert Fulton, Cyrus McCormick, Francis Lowell, and Samuel Slater. Many inventions and innovations were created during this period of time The beginning of the revolution dealt with cotton and the way it was picked and processed.
These resources helped to build parts for the steam engine. The English scientific thought also helped cause the Industrial Revolution. People discovered different ways to things to make the process more efficient. The First Industrial Revolution had such an enormous impact on the United States as a whole. One thing that it did was that it created new inventions. These inventions helped to make lives easier, more than anything. An example of an invention that was created in 1712, was the "steamboat." Also, the Industrial Revolution created never before seen technology, as well.
Through his efforts and many others, people created modern wonders that continued to change the world. Some of the inventions that helped shape the future included the steam engine, national roadways, the Erie Canal, and the telegraph. The steam engine would lead to inventing the steam press for printing, the steamboat and locomotive for transportation, and other steam powered machines for factories. The buildings that made up these factories were transformations of neccesity.

Factories resulted in business owners receiving a greater profit because of an increase in trade due to goods being produced faster and sold cheaper. Therefore a cycle was set that benefitted consumers, workers, and business owners and contributed to the capital increase in the economy. Railroads also lead to economic growth, and “during the 1800s the amount of railroad track increased dramatically in Britain, the Continental Europe, and the United States” (Document 5). The railroad system was highly valued by business owners because it expanded the amount of customers they were able to deliver to, goods could be shipped faster, and the payload increased significantly.
Goods were shipped faster and at lower cost, and more land opened up for cotton growers and other farmers. Moreover, another technological development that influenced the growth of the United States economy was the development of railroads. Railroads were “shrinking distances, dramatically lowering costs, opening new markets, and increasing competition” (Doc 9). Railroads were basically essential for keeping the economy in balance. They supplied cities and towns with food, fuel, building materials, and access to markets.
The revolution changed the way that things were produced and allowed for there to be more advancement made in more science and mathematic fields allowing less time consummation to take place with the replacement of small hand tools with larger, and faster machines that got rid of high consumer prices almost entirely for the fact was is that it was no longer as expensive to make things, and they took far less time to make than they did when they were having to be made by hand.
