Mr. Heckel’s Story Mr. Heckel’s childhood was weird, he was raised up in a very odd neighborhood where there were flying ninjas and rednecks. Luckily, my parents had traveled from Vietnam to America during the Vietnam war so I was raised up in a safe neighborhood. High School for Mr. Heckel was not fun, and as he was growing up he went to school in terror, he never thought he would be a teacher. After surviving elementary and high school life in such an a odd neighborhood, Mr.Heckel decided to go to a college far away from home to avoid the madness around his home. He got so much time to spend with kids and enjoyed working with other kids. I get to spend a lot of time with kids because I have two younger cousins who I help out and enjoy spending time with them. With Mr. Heckel’s new passion he decided to move to Grand Valley State University where he would receive his teaching degree, overall Mr.Heckel spent 7 years in college. The first time Mr. Heckel started to teach was when he was 27 years old as a student teacher. Over time, Mr. Heckel got better at teaching and soon became a professional teacher. He came to Zeeland where he would continue to spend his teaching career even to this day. The class that Mr.Heckel teaches is chemistry. He chose to teach chemistry because it was his favorite science subject in high school and he did very well in the class. When I asked Mr. Heckel why he liked chemistry he said that he liked the math concept behind it “Its Math but not like Calculus Math.” Mr. Heckel said that he would become a physics teacher because it too involves math. I am also starting to like chemistry a lot because it does not require much math like Calculus or Statistics and so far, out of all the science classes I have taken, chemistry has caught my eye because Mr.Heckel teacher chemistry in a very interesting
