Being able to work as an effective member of a team is of critical importance in patient care. The General Medical Council states that “Doctors and students must develop skills to work in multi-disciplinary teams. This involves respecting the skills and contributions of colleagues and other professionals, and developing effective communication with other members of the team and with patients” (1). A multi-disciplinary team is defined by the Health Service Executive as “a group of healthcare workers who are members of different disciplines, each providing specific services to the patient” (2). An example of a multi-disciplinary team could be a surgical team. I have previously spent time in an operating theatre, able to observe a surgical team
