Who will you be interviewing for your Multi-Disciplinary Team Alliance Research Project? For my Multi-Disciplinary Team Alliance research project, I will be interview two people I have grown to idolizing in fields who promote service to others. I felt as though I could collect information during my interview that showed common goals for carrerr___ and compare the similarities in what drives them to excel in their chosen professions. Collaboration among health care professionals is defined as assuming complementary roles and cooperatively working together, sharing responsibility for problem solving and making decisions to formulate and carry out plans for patient care. (Fagin, 2008). In any field of health care where physicians and nurses interact with one another for the purpose of quality patient care, it is vital for them to work together as one and understand the needs of their patients as well as each other’s roles and responsibilities. In short, teamwork should prevail for excellent patient service. Therefore, being in full partnership as a nurse with the physician and other healthcare professional is another recommendation that is applied by the RWJ-IOM report.
‘’When person, and the interests of a person should be at the centre of all relationships. People and where appropriate their carers, must be recognized as partners in the planning of services which should be integrated and based on collaborative working across all sectors’’ (Health, Social Services and Public Safety) Multi-agency working involved a number of professionals from different medical services all working together to provide the best holistic care for the individuals using the health and social care services. Multi-agency working within the health and social care setting is very important for both the professionals and the patients because it can provide an overall quick and accurate procedure of care.
Therefore, teamwork, effective communication, and cultural understanding are essential for providing high levels of care and ensuring a positive service user experience. Part B: Reflect on your experience of collaborating with a team during social responsibility activities and explain how you can apply this in your clinical practice. I plan to review and evaluate my experience whilst working as part of a team to fulfil my selected social responsibility tasks. Whilst performing and preparing for the task I was able to explore the purpose behind team working and the rewarding feeling I was welcomed with upon completion of the task. Through the application of Kolb’s learning cycle (1984), I will reflect upon my strengths and limitations that were presented throughout the duration of the group’s requirements.
Given this gap, it is suggested that if we are able to identify the readiness of a practitioner to collaborate before entering into a team, some of these challenges will be addressed and the subsequent team will have fewer difficulties working together. Despite my young age of just 15, I had the opportunity to respond to any emergency and code in the hospital. I fell in love not only with the adrenaline rush but with the fact that I, a teenager, was experiencing in real life the events that I watched in medical-themed TV shows and movies. Because of my growing interest in the medical field, my mentor provided me with opportunities to observe the work of doctors and other medical professionals in almost every area of the hospital. Luckily, each experience in one area of the hospital lead to even greater opportunities in other areas, some of which few doctors receive. I observed several surgeries- including a gall bladder removal, an exploratory belly, and an open heart surgery-, small procedures in the Cath Lab, and the daily duties in the Radiology, Emergency, Nursing, Intensive Care, Physical Therapy, Pre-Operation, and Post- Operation Units.
Health care is a term that describes a broad range of services. Members of a health care team range from family members to neurosurgeons, but each member of a patient’s health care team plays a critical role in optimizing patient care. Therefore, it is important to recognize and appreciate all the players in the medical field and their contributions to health care. I was drawn to the medical field because of my love of science and endless curiosity. However, it was not until high school that I narrowed my science passion down to human science.
It is perceived that multi-disciplinary collaboration when it comes to service-user care is linked to more positive outcomes and experiences (Clifton et al., 2007). Teams which are able to communicate and are well coordinated have a lower rate of error (Despins, 2009). System level failures and human error are often identified as causes of harm (Institute of Medicine, 1999). Patient safety is a focal point for healthcare organizations across the country (Ulrich & Kear, 2014). Many organizations strive to develop and maintain a culture of safety.
Interdisciplinary team consists of members form multiple disciplines with specialized knowledge, skills, and methods. Working as a team decreases the utilization of redundant and/or duplicate services as this approach pool resources from multiple disciplines allowing for a individualized care plan (O’Daniel & Rosenstein, 2008). O’Daniel and Rosenstein (2008) reported that patients prefer to work with a cohesive team of providers, rather than multiple providers who know nothing of their ongoing cares. Effective Communication
