Multidimensional Biopsychosocial Assessment Social Work Setting and Role I am employed as an on-going social worker by the MA Department of Children and Families (DCF). DCF is a child protection agency, which is responsible for protecting children from abuse and neglect and strengthening families. The Department has offices throughout the Commonwealth; I am located at the New Bedford area office. As an on-going social worker I am assigned families after a report of abuse or neglect has been reported, investigated and supported.
Dr. Theodore Millon created a system of personality assessment that consisted of eight domains of functioning. The domains are: behavioral domains (split into expressive acts and interpersonal conduct), phenomenological domains (split into cognitive styles, object representations, and self image), intrapsychic domains (split into regulatory mechanisms and morphologic organization), and biophysical domains which covers mood and temperament. Together, these domains come together to form a cohesive theory about how personality works, and how an individual will act on a day to day and situation to situation basis. This can be useful when assessing why people have done what they did, as in the case study provided to us today, the case of the adulterous County Sheriff.
In examining the role of expert testimony in criminal law cases, there are several factors to be considered; the most significant is the question of what weight is given to the expert witnesses’ testimony and what affect this has on the outcome. In cases to determine whether an offender ought to be labeled as a dangerous offender, these questions have reaching implications. The medicalization of deviancy, and the role of expert witnesses in presenting their psychological and psychiatric findings to the court, deeply affects the outcomes for the offenders involved. By medicalizing risk and relying on diagnoses such as psychopathy, the medical experts’ testimony contributes to the pathologizing of criminal individuals and leads to higher rates of dangerous offender designations.
Forensic psychologists will help create a criminal profile through the use of interviews and assessments to understand the victim or the possible offender. This allows for a better understanding of the individual and for the offender to be brought to justice (Godwin et al., 2001). The objective of the survey is to propose proper instructions and improved guidelines for the treatment of patients with ADHD symptoms for better and long-term consequences. To expand, I am interested in obtaining a degree in forensic psychology because I desire to learn more about criminals, their behavior, how to help law enforcement, and how I could save targeted victims. Reading books such as Mind Hunter, Murderous Minds, and my current interest Anatomy of Terror and Inside the Criminal Mind, I feel that I have gained only little insight on the joint efforts between psychology and law enforcement professionals. That is why I am intrigued to learn further about the clinical assessment of individuals and how to use it to help law enforcement. Once completing multiple personality tests; thus I was finally able to confirm ESTJ as my personality type. Since I was getting unsuited suggestions of career choices, I retook the test until ESTJ was able to fit more of my interests and viewpoints. The 16 Personalities Test results gave me a more detailed description of who I am and insight on my personality traits. State-Trait Depression Inventory (STDI) was used to measure depression (Spielberger, 2003).
