Research shows that crimes other than murder are very much influenced just like the serial killings and murders are. Children who experience violence are also likely to grow up committing a life of misdemeanor felonies. Examples of misdemeanors are possession of drugs, vandalism, and trespassing. To start off, let’s look at the early years of Jeffrey Dahmer. On page seventy-three of the book “Criminal Investigations: Serial Killers”, it is read that Jeffrey Dahmer suffered sexual abuse by a neighbor when he was only eight years old. Shortly after that, his parents got a divorce, then Dahmer started to experiment with animals that were dead. When the team analyses a suspect’s behavior, they always tend to infer some everyday behaviors that the suspect exhibits. During a psychology class students learn that a person’s behavior is prominently shaped by the environment that person grew up in. Anyone can take that information and confidently state that the extreme experiences one endures will stay with them for the rest of their lives and more than likely will have an influence on them from that point forward. The book Criminal Investigations tells readers that forty-three percent of serial killers report being physically or sexually abused. Seventy- four report psychological abuse by someone who was supposed to be taking care of them. Andrei Chikatilo who was later named “The Rostov Ripper”, witnessed his own brother get murdered and then eaten by the adults in their neighborhood and neighbors. Watching someone get killed and eaten in front of you is guaranteed to alter your life in some way, let alone your very own brother or relative. The book goes on to say that Andrei took part in the act of cannibalism before he eventually turned to murder. Newton writes, “Between 1981 and 1990, he slaughtered fifty-two more victims” (Newton, 2008 p. 87-88) On the next page, the author describes Pedro Lopez’s story. Lopez was born in Columbia in 1949 to an unmarried prostitute who had given birth to thirteen children. Lopez ran away from home after being sexually assaulted by his teacher only to be abused further when he was sent to jail. After being released, he began to kidnap girls from the villages of Columbia, Ecuador, and Peru. He would later rape and murder them. “As Lopez later explained his crimes to police,” I lost my innocence at age eight, so I decided to do the same to as many young girls as I could.” (Newton, 2008 p. 90) This mass murderer claimed the lived of more
