Music Law in the Digital Age was published in 2017 by Allen Bargfrede, the founder and head of Rethink Music at Berklee College of Music. He mainly focuses his work as a lawyer on the intersection of art and technology. He holds a JD and a BA from the University of Texas at Austin and an MA from Northwestern University. The purpose of Bargfrede is to inform. He wrote this book in order to have a reference guide for online music distribution and the legalities behind it. He mainly teaches the basics of copyright law and policy as it exists today, and how copyright applies to music. He claims that he has a passion for this field, and have been in awe of the evolution of the music industry from the eighties to today. It was published from Lifeware, a moderate website so the bias and intent of the publisher seems to be a minimum. Especially since the author’s main purpose is to inform. He mostly informs the public of the history of the growth of ITunes and their achievements so far. He also compares how the company has started to where it is today and also compared how it has grown compared to other companies. The primary audience seems like to be the general public, however it can also be applied to legislation. Their anonomy may seem like a dent in credibility, however they claim that they do it because it allows them to speak in a collective voice and make a more effective argument. This source does seem a bit outdated, however copyright law is still similar to what it was 13 years ago I can still use this source. The source gives a view and the arguments of the copyleft ideas, where copyright laws are too strict and needs to be lighten in order for the music industry to progress. The main purpose is to persuade the audience to their argument. This source will assist me in my paper because it will give me the argument of why copyright law is too strict. It also gives me a list of counter arguments to go against the argument that copyright law is not strict
