My Character Development John Hays Hammond once said, “Character is the real foundation of all worthwhile success.” This quotation is relevant to the thesis of why character is so important. I believe that character grows through experiences and is an important part of who you are. For you to have a better understanding I will explain how my levels of integrity, discipline, and enthusiasm have grown through my time spent at the Helen Stevens Memorial Pool. I have also become more responsible from volunteering opportunities I’ve done. Lastly, a big part of my character has grown from having my dad as my high school basketball coach. All of these characteristics have developed from my time at Cass City High School. A good trait everyone should obtain is personal responsibility. Every Thanksgiving, I volunteer at the community Thanksgiving dinner. Before the community arrives, there are many jobs to be done. The food needs to be prepared, the tables need to be set up, and the desserts need to be set out. According to the State of Michigan, the kitchen needs to be clean at all times. In the 2016-2017 basketball season, my dad became my basketball coach. I knew going into the season my dad was going to be harder on me because I was his daughter. It was really hard to not take his comments personally and to remember that he was just my coach. I had to constantly remind myself that I had to respect him like a coach and he was my dad. That year, I learned to respect my dad on a whole different level. It made me realize that he will always want the best for me and for the team.
