I currently work for Compassion Care Hospice. Compassion Care Hospice is a for profit hospice agencyin Las Vegas Nevada. Owners Denny Barnett, Kelly Thompson, and Joe Schwab opened Compassion Care began in April 2005. Compassion Care Hospice is run and operated by the Aria management company. Compassion care is now one of the leading Hospice in the Las Vegas area, with a census at 140.

For example, some may argue that leaders who prioritize strength and decisiveness over empathy and thoughtfulness can be more effective in achieving their goals. Alternatively, others may suggest that leaders who possess other qualities, such as charisma, vision, or strategic thinking, are more successful. No matter what setting might be, I call upon certain leadership traits that have helped me be successful thus far in life. As a leader, I set goals that benefit the group in the long run while insuring that each individual reaches their full potential in best serving the group. 1. My philosophy of leadership is about collaboration and teamwork. Respecting and treating everyone the same, is key to supporting a good team atmosphere. I believe when a leader puts effort and care into assisting others, then their peers and followers will naturally want to support them. It is also important for a leader to recognize, that advocacy must never become so important that the critical elements of leadership are neglected (e.g. policy enforcement, command support, etc...).
In the reading, the author discusses throughout the chapter skills and techniques in the middle phase of working with a service user. Honesty is a value that is highly respected in the social work profession because it creates authenticity and trust in the therapeutic alliance. I agree with the statement completely, as I believe that being honest in regards to what one is feeling as a social worker allows the service user to be honest with how they are feeling as well. Further, it is explained that empathy is of vast importance when working with a service user in order to connect, help them uncover what they are feeling, and find specific approaches and techniques that would be beneficial to the service user. Although I agree that empathy is an important skill for a social worker to have when working with a service user, I feel that at times it can be an issue.
But first, you should have clarity of your own identity and knowledge. Once you have your own foundation with being a leader, I think that as a leader you can transition and understand the behavior of others that may be on your team. When acknowledging others on the team, I think that it is important to identify strengths and weaknesses of others and the team. As you can see, I have outlined what I believe makes a great and effective leader.
Being an effective leader can be a challenging task when managing numerous employees with many different personalities. Each employee works and thinks differently and a great leader is able to distinguish each trait and enhance those qualities. Moreover, having a caring heart can help enhance each employee’s personal traits and relationships with the leaders. According to Daniel Goleman, there are three types of attention essential for a leader; attention on others, attention on oneself and attention on the entire world.
