Since I was ten years old, I have been a member of the Young Marines, a program dedicated to the enrichment of youth. Aside from my family and school, this organization has had an incredible impact on my life, not only providing me with many unique and amazing experiences, but by shaping the foundation of my character by instilling in me the three core principles of the Young Marines: Discipline, Leadership, and Teamwork and also by emphasizing the importance of community service. I have had many amazing and unique experiences as a Young Marine which included the challenges of promotion to become the senior ranking officer, learning many new skills such as CPR, teaching Drug Demand Reduction, leading and mentoring the members of the Unit, going on encampments and traveling. In my sophomore year, my Unit Commander, a Korean War veteran, selected me to travel with him to Seoul. Every few years he chooses a Young Marine to take to South Korea based on merit.
The fiction story that I wrote about was titled, “The Rebirth of an American Solider. The basis of this story was about a solider and how he was able to transition from his secondary position with the Army, right into being a well awarded sniper. The idea that I used for this story was two folded, first off at the University of Akron where I attended classes before transferring to Cuyahoga Community College. I was enrolled in a pair of composition classes that were military based.

When I first stumbled upon this scholarship from the American Legion, I knew right away that I wanted to apply for it because of the similarities between what the American Legion and what I both stand for. I few words that I would use to describe the American Legion and myself would be, service, integrity, and hard work. These are a few things that I take very seriously and attempt to involve in my life everyday. I pride myself on these high character traits and try to use them in my community, during sporting events, at home, and at my school. Be All You Can Be In The U.S. Army The U.S. Army was founded on June 14, 1775. The U.S Army is the land service branch of the United States Armed Forces and it is one of the eight U.S. uniformed services. The Army is “a powerful fighting force defending and serving our nation by land, sea, and air.” The Army’s main objective is to preserve the peace, security and defense of the United States. The best way they do that is by organizing, training, and equipping active duty and reserved forces.

Background checks and months of training are required to ensure that the best is selected to stand strong as one for the best interest of all. Regardless of the requisites, hundreds of individuals devote their time to become part of the US military, unfortunately it is not meant for everyone. Even though the system tries to ensure that only the strong get chosen, it has been proven to be flawed. For example, ex-military personal, like Robert (Bowe) Bergdahl, have left base camps or leaked information to express their feelings towards the military.
