My Informational Speech Over A Non-Profit Organization

I did my informational speech over a non-profit organization that involves bringing the community together to help people in need called, CANstruction. Overall the speech was over three minutes and thirty seconds long, and my delivery of the speech was about average. I personally feel like I could have done much better, but I let my nerves get the best of me. In this reflection, I will be discussing the behaviors I noticed, why I believe I presented my speech in that way, how it affected my speech, and how I can take what I’ve learned from this communication class to the real world.
Some of the behaviors I noticed from myself were both good and bad. I observed that while I had enough information in for my speech, I talked much faster than I had when I had previously practiced. I remember my timed practice speech being around six minutes. The time limit for the informational speech was about four minutes and thirty seconds to seven minutes and thirty seconds. While my speech was packed with statistics from the CANstruction and Helping Hands Organization’s websites and my own personal experience, it only ended up lasting around three minutes and thirty-three seconds. Believe it or not I think that my speech anxiety has gotten a little bit better. In high school, I used to shake uncontrollably anytime I had to present something. Being able to convey ideas thoroughly and clearly to an audience is an important skill to have no matter what career path I choose to follow. Learning how to overcome those subconscious behaviors that I rely on to help me focus will be a challenge, but in the end, it will be worth it. Being able to get up and give a speech or presentation using good eye contact and a good talking rate is a valued skill in today’s world and it’s something that I hope I can master in the
