The Call to Adventure
I experienced a “call to adventure” when I decided to come to Akron Early College High School. I knew that it was going to be different from regular high school because we would get our associate degree along with our high school diploma in the span of 4 years. I was excited at the prospect of getting a head start. However, I was scared that I would not be able to keep up since 4 years seems too small to get 6 years’ worth of education. It turns out that Akron Early College High School has many charms that would not be found in regular school. Most of my friends had chosen to go to a different school, so I was almost alone in the new school. I was afraid that I would not be able to make new friends and find something in common with people from different schools. Although I am a shy person, I had to find the courage to talk to other students and try to make friends. Once the school started, it was only natural to talk to other students about different classes that we had. We began to help each other with things that we did not understand, and I was able to make new friends. Although I had to go out of my comfort zone to make friends, I learned that my classmates were not very different from me. We talk about our days and different things that we learned that day. I give her advices on things that trouble her. I tell her to give people chances and not be so quick to judge them. During middle school, I used to give my friends advices when they came to me with their problems. We would talk about the problem and come up with different actions that they could take along with the different outcomes. I would leave them to decide for themselves what action they would take. As I learn new things each day, I inform my sister about the things that I learned. I don’t want her to stray to the wrong path, so I always give her advice and tell her that I am always there to listen to her. Although I have many things to learn myself, I will always be there to help her overcome obstacles in her journey to become a successful
