My Leadership Philosophy

Leadership When I were to look back five years ago to when I was a college freshman, I sit and think to myself: I cant believe I am who I am today. It is easy to sit and talk about who you are and what you want in life but when you actually have to sit back and really think about who you are and critique and analyze your development and growth as an individual. It becomes a difficult task. Being in college really helped me become the person that I am today. I can say I am very proud of who I become: A Leader. I would get nervous and choke on my words. I did not know how to let my convesation flow. Basketball allowed me to become a better communicator. As a point guard, I had to communicate and direct people to the right places. It was very intimidating and uncomfortable because I was worried about what people would think. I would upset my coach a great deal because I would not communicate and open my mouth. As a result, it caused the whole entire team to run. I never understood why it was so important for me to talk. I was afraid to open my mouth and afraid of failure. I realized that it was not fair. I realized that fairness was apart of me becoming a better leader. I started opening up and directing my team. I would watch film and get a better understanding of their games. I knew what their weaknesses were and their strengths. I would put them in a position to succeed as a player. If something needed improvement, I knew what tone I had to speak to each person in and gave them feedback in all areas. I knew if I wanted to lead, I had to be able to relate and understand everyone's game and position. Basketball allowed me to become competitive and a team player.
