My Personal Development Timeline
A person and their personality are consistently undergoing change. These changes occur due to many variables including environmental, social, or biological variables. I personally belief is that these are important factors that play a role in how a person develops. Even more importantly, I feel that personal experiences have a tremendous role in shaping personality. I have experienced changes that have been developmentally impactful. I will further name, describe and address how these events have influenced my development.
Event 1: Birth and early childhood
I am my father’s third oldest child and my mother’s oldest child. From a very young age, the dynamics in my family have consistently changed. My father was not close to his to eldest children, so I was usually taking on the role of the eldest child. I remember when I was the only child. That period of my life was very significant, I spent more time with both my parents. As we have learned, when we are children, we learn through a process of adaptation (Broderick & Blewitt, 2010). As children, we take information, and understand it in ways similar ways to other interpretations. For example, when choosing a candy, I picked what I preferred. This type of decision making is what I felt my parents engaged in when I felt that my sister was preferred over me. Once I could manage more of my emotions and feelings, this allowed me to become thoughtful about what my value was, and what I meant to my parents.
