ESA #6A Task 4 4(a) Review and evaluate building-based policies and procedures relevant to the protection of the welfare and safety of students, staff, and visitors within the selected school. Buckeye Career Center has a variety of policies and procedures dealing with safety of individuals on the property. The procedures, defined both in the public student handbook and the private safety plan, will be reviewed in that order. The first safety policy listed in the student handbook is the safety test. As BCC provides training in vocations that have inherent risks, all students must complete a safety unit at the beginning or school and pass a safety test for their lab with a 100%.
Before enrolling into the course of English 111, my writing was primarily based on specific boundaries. For example, I was told that essays needed to be five paragraphs long with five to eight sentences within each paragraph. After my enrollment into this course, I have learned that the stereotype for writing an essay was not as practical as I once had believed, and that the limitations and expectations that were once implemented into my writing were essentially not correct. This course has changed my writing by allowing me to expand into broader topics in papers, such as compare and contrast essays, subject by subject, and point by point papers and outlines. I have learned now to use stronger verbs within my essays, and to open my vocabulary
Every sentence that is being written can improve your writing skills, every paragraph is a learning experience. Since this is my second essay, I have improved significantly from my first one even though I thought the argumentative essay was way easier. Even though I have improved significantly there are still a lot of things I can improve on in my writing. For my analysis essay, the hardest part was doing a multi-layer analysis.
One of the most important factors in helping Rome thrive as a city, and gain government power throughout Italy was the way in which they treated the outlying Latium towns. In order for Rome to expand their power, they needed to expand their land. Because the Latin towns had a treaty, made by Spurius Cassius, with the neighboring tribe of Hernicans, these cities would be the perfect places to expand. As I was reading Melissa Duffy’s “Inspiration, and Craig Vetter’s “Bonehead Writing,” I found myself connecting with Vetter’s paper more than Duffy’s. I found that the presentation in “Bonehead Writing” to capture my attention, and that Vetter’s feelings about writing was similar to my opinion on writing. Through his wording and humor, I think Craig Vetter wrote the best essay. I find that the wording and presentation of an article or essay influences my opinion of the writer, and it affects how I receive the idea they are trying to present to me. Craig Vetter uses a blunt approach to convey his idea that writing is nearly impossible to teach, and describes writing as “A blood sport, a walk in the garden of agony every time out.”
Writing assignment two was a bit more different from assignment one, and other essays. The format of the essay was to be written in either a letter or a memo. I found this to be a challenge since I have never wrote a paper like the one assigned. My paper was written in a memo rather than a letter. The reason to this is because it is directed toward the school district back in my hometown.
We live in a world of signs, and it is through the interpretation of these signs that we learn to understand our place in the natural world and in our various communities and cultures. When we get right down to it, interpretation is the basis of human survival in a world that will control and direct (or destroy) us unless we discover how to redirect outside forces to our advantage. And the only tool we have in this regard is language. As we’ve discovered in our first essay assignment, our own experiences can be presented through the narrative/exploratory form to show the reader a personal story in such a way that it becomes an exercise in interpretation that redirects the story’s personal energy to a more universal understanding, e.g.,
In my freshman year at Nicholls State University, I was required to take the course English 101. In this course, you learn the basics for writing an essay. You learn how to create a well-organized paper, how to pick your topic, and how to fix your grammatical errors. In this class, you learn multiple exercises to improve your writing skills. These are exercises that I will take with me in English 102 and from now on when writing a paper.
In high school, writing papers was never an issue for me. I would often start my papers the night before they were due, full of energy due to the amount of caffeine I had in my system. One of the main reasons that I received high grades on my papers was not because I was under pressure, but because I knew what my teachers wanted to hear. Growing up in a small town and having a teacher as a mom, I knew most of my teachers personally. When I wrote essays, I was not writing about something I was passionate about; I was writing about what I knew my teachers would agree with.
Writing has always come easy to me, or so I thought. Over the course of this semester, I’ve realized that there’s more to writing than just content; in fact, there are many components to writing a good piece, including: transitional statements, expanded vocabulary, textual structure, text type, and integrating outside sources. As a high school student, I tell myself, it doesn’t matter how it’s formatted, you should be more concerned with content, but as a Composition I student, I’ve realized that format and content are entwined. By writing in different genres, Composition I has allowed me to expand on creatively presenting the content in my essays and improve my formatting skills. My writing process has stemmed from what I was conditioned to believe makes a “perfect essay” in high school. The first year of high school I was not taught how to build a strong essay but instead a well constructed outline that showed my ability to critically think. Sophomore year was dedicated to building our lexicon and syntax when writing. We were to learn how to take the most basic sentence and turn it into a well orchestrated paragraph. Junior year was when I began timed writing sessions, being able to construct a well written essay in forty minutes.
But, as I look back into my steps of learning literacy it came to mind how difficult writing essays were. The biggest piece of the puzzle is to not be afraid to express my opinions and feelings through writing. Sometimes my teachers would encourage me and suggest how we can express ourselves by free writing. This simple technique helped us to express ourselves and we become open to our feelings through
Writing has always been an issue but yet interesting subject of mine. As hard as I try and write essays, and papers I just can’t get the hang of writing. But after taking this class, I did learn different writing technique and improved my writing proficiency, material body of formatting, and how to uncovering and properly use sources. Through class exams, essays, and a research paper, I was able to learn new writing skills. Although I have learned a variety of things, my writing still needs improvement.
My Writing Experience In previous courses, my writing skills have been mediocre or just enough to pass the class. Throughout the duration of this course, I have written a variety of papers using different techniques and skills. Previously I would write assuming that the only audience would be my instructor. This course has helped me realize that there are many steps and skills involved with writing a well-organized and easy to comprehend essay.
Each essay I wrote took me several time to write, several drafts which show that I have improve every time I do the drafts to write a perfect masterpiece. I learned a lot of skills and techniques this quarter, which has helped me to improve and progress my writing skills for the future. I will remember the skills, techniques, and tips that professor gave us in this English class for my higher education. For example, all the time that I went to visit professor Sapozhnikov office hours to receive help on my out-of -class essays has helped me to improve, grow, and progress in my writing skills as a writer. Some of the significant changes I have made as I was progressing and growing were to develop a strong thesis to help support my claims as I write my essays, such as facts, observations, illustration, and examples.
