My Writing Journey Throughout My First Trimester Of IWCC Composition

Kate Graeve Mr. Duitsman IWCC English Comp 1 29 February 2024 Writing Journey Throughout my first trimester of IWCC Composition, I have learned many tactics in order to advance my writing and keep up with the work that the class offered. During this class, we mainly focused on writing essays, revising, and reading other texts in order to learn new techniques to add into our writing. It was assigned to us to complete 4 essays: narrative, definition, cause and effect, and exemplification. I took a liking to most of these writing styles, but a few challenged my writing abilities and I learned from those experiences. Although I had many struggles throughout this class, I was able to create new skills as a result. As I struggled through a few of the writing assignments, I also learned how to structure my in-class work time, advanced some of my writing skills, and learned how to think more critically about topics I usually wouldn’t dig deep into. Another aspect of this class that I had a hard time adjusting to was the amount of work time that we had. Although I had enough time to get everything completed, I often found myself rushing to get a perfect draft out right away, and then I would procrastinate on my revision process. Having a type A personality, I have a hard time writing a truly ‘rough’ draft. I always want to get a perfect essay written in the most efficient way possible, with minimal errors. This not only created more stress for myself, it made me not want to revise because I believed that my writing was already perfect. I had to learn throughout this trimester to take a step back, focus on one paragraph at a time, and go through my work afterwards to catch the errors that I frequently made. In order to keep myself accountable for revising, I found the peer-editing to be very helpful. Throughout the trimester, I relied heavily on peer-editing in order to do
