My educational experience in psychology has motivated me to pursue a master’s degree at NYU in general psychology with a focus on forensic psychology. My objectives while at NYU would be: acquire clinical techniques in order to conduct psychological testing on inmates; gain proficient knowledge in the law and legal system; advance my analytical writing skills for mental health assessments; and understand the basic psychological factors that influence jury decision-making. Following completion of the master's program, my career ambitions are to work with incarcerated individuals and develop a technique to reach inmates whose mental health disorders go unheeded. In this experiment, we looked at a 2(participant gender: male, female) X 3(existence of bias: bias, equality, control) between-subjects design. This helped to isolate the causal impact of gender bias on the gender gap in HEED. Participants (N = 346) read either a gender bias article, a gender equality article, or no article, for which they then had to complete a four-dependent variable scale, which was shown at random (and items within each scale were randomized). When men were exposed to the gender bias condition, they expected to experience less sense of belonging, less positivity, and more anticipated discrimination in HEED than women. I expanded my research skills through this lab by utilizing SPSS Statistics, MTurk, Qualtrics, and Microsoft Excel. The research I contributed to Professor Moss-Racusin's pioneering study piqued my interest in social psychology, which led me to discover forensic psychology after reading about gender bias in law
