It was a cold January night, on a bus headed to Washington DC. Some students were asleep but others, myself included, were too eager and wide awake. I sat in my seat with my ukulele in my lap. Since it was 3AM I dozed off for a bit and the last thing I remember was seeing a sign that said Welcome to Maryland! and I knew we were almost there. I woke up from my short nap as the bus stopped at a McDonalds 20 minutes from our destination. I thought to myself how fun the trip would be and of all the fun things I had planned on doing. What happened next would ruin it all. Before we left the bus to get breakfast, I heard the group leader say, “Attention Latin School students, due to an impending blizzard, we may have to head home early.” I couldn’t believe my ears. We all were excited to go on this trip. As a head member of this organization, I was eager for this trip all year. We all saved our money in order to go on this trip and as a result of the decision to go back home, felt that it had been wasted. Although I was in a position of power within the school organization that made this trip every year, I had no authority to say whether or not we could stay for the main event. The group leader, who was the faculty proctor of the school group had a significant amount of power. He was the one who organized and coordinated the trip, and ultimately, he was the one who decided that we were going to go home early. Although he was the one who made the decision, he was not the one with the most power. The stakeholder with the most power was the weather. The weather, although not a person, but rather an inanimate entity, held the most power. It controlled the decision that the group leader made. If the weather was nice, we would have been able to participate in the main event of our trip but since the weather sent a blizzard to us on the day of the March, we were not able to
