My heart was like a train racing down the tracks of uncertainty. Hot sweat trickled down my face as the announcer rang throughout my ears and the rest of my body. As I glanced around at the stadium that engulfed me I began to feel the pressure. June of 2021 is when I began my journey through the sport of field hockey. I was the smallest on the field but had the biggest heart for a sport that I didn't even know existed. The beginning was as rough as trying to spread cold butter over an extremely stale piece of bread. You can be rusty at a sport but creating relationships within your team grows you as a teammate and a friend. I began to work hard outside of high school practice, conducting my drills, forcing myself to run, and pushing myself to limits I thought were impossible. Luckily I played golf which was a helping hand since field hockey is just golf with a lot of running. The more I practiced for practice I noticed my work ethic begin to shine. I began to stand out at practice and my coach noticed almost at an instant. Whenever she brought up a challenge I was the first to attempt it. I always wanted to be in the demonstration even though there was an exceedingly high risk of failure in front of my teammates. My coach saw something in me that was unique to the others. This led me to muster up the guts to try out for a travel team. Playing at this level not only gave me confidence on the field but diminished the anxiety of not being the best on the team. Next thing you know I'm on the Grosse Pointe South Varsity field hockey team preparing to be declared as the Division Two State Champions of 2022. It was game day, we walked up to the bus as a team.
