The state of Arizona has a population is estimated to be 68,60,000 people. Out of the 68,60,000 people, only 296,529 are Native American. Native Americans take up four percent of the state’s population, making it the second biggest population in the United States. The two biggest and well known of these tribes are Apache and Navajo. Even though these are the two biggest groups, they experience problems of health and environment issues as a whole. Native Americans are twice as likely to develop diabetes and are faced with contaminated water more then their white counterparts. This legislation introduced Native American’s Education Opportunity Act which provides different education opportunities and options to kids in the BIE school system. This legislation is the first of its kind to use Education State Account or ESA and allow the family to have more options for schooling. The family would be able to use the state allocated funds for their child to help with common school expenses such as private school tuition, online classes, book, and many more. This legislation will also span to states who have existing ESA’s such as Nevada, Florida, and Mississippi. This legislation will also help students who are forced into some of the worst schools and be able to lower the drop out of BIE school’s currently face which is currently below the national average. A legislation that McCain cosponsored was Safeguard Tribal Objects of Patrimony (STOP ACT). This legislation was introduced by New Mexico’s Senator Martin Heinriech. This act protects precious artifacts of Native Americans from being illegally trafficked. This legislation helps to defend the history and the customs of the tribes. It keeps precious things with the tribe and is able to be cherished by the tribe’s future generations to come. This legislation increases federal penalties for preparatory caught doing this
