Abortion has been around for many years. Since around the 1800’s it has been practiced. The state did not prohibit abortion until the 19th century. By 1880 abortions were illegal in the United States except those that saved the life of a woman. Beginning in the 1960’s women began to fight more aggressively for their rights. By 1970, New York state passed a law that allowed abortion on demand from the 24th week of pregnancy if it was done by a doctor. On January 22, 1973 Roe vs Wade stated the “right of privacy.” Founded in the 14th amendment of personal liberty is broad enough for a woman to decide whether or not to terminate her pregnancy. Almost 40% of one million teenagers that become pregnant yearly choose abortion. Parental involvement laws are required. You must either notify your parent or receive their consent. Some states require the physician must notify at least one of the parents in person, writing, or by phone. Pro-lifers believe that fetuses are people. Pro-choicers believe that fetuses are not people until they reach a certain state or development, at birth, or prior to it. The philosophical argument for life has two parts. One part is from natural value and one is from natural science. Natural value means that all humans have the right of life because they are human. Natural science means that the life of each person mammal begins at conception. One of the biggest arguments about abortion is denying that the fetus is a person. If you can deny that than abortion is wrong. If you agree that the fetus is not a person than abortion is morally permissible. Religious communities have many different views on the definition of a “person” or when abortion is morally justified. Canada believes that a fetus is not a person with legal rights. Abortion actually has positive benefits to the lives and health of young mothers. And the laws against abortion have never stopped the actual procedure from happening, it has only made it more dangerous and risky for the woman. One of the biggest arguments about abortion is that the fetus can feel pain. That makes it extremely horrific in anyone’s view. This is however very unlikely to be true. The fetus lacks a developed nervous system and brain to feel pain or even be aware of their surroundings. The neuroanatomical apparatus required for pain and sensation is not developed until about the 26th week of pregnancy. The limit for abortion is 24 weeks worldwide, while most are done within the first 9 weeks. There are many claims that abortion causes cancer and infertility in women. This is terrifying to women in that situation. However, it has not been scientifically proven that there are more cancer finding in women who had abortions. Also it has not been proven that women have fertility issues that have had abortions. These have just been thrown out there to scare women so that they will not go through with
