Hey, this is my rhetorical essay for my college composition 1 class. I was going to go with a completely different advertisement but I feel like the one I'm using in this essay is perfect. It is proven to be so effective in today's society that you can't even go outside without seeing its logo/slogan. What logo you might ask, I'm talking about the well-known, “Just do it” Nike logo. The well-known company known as “Nike” was founded but 2 people. Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman on January 25th, 1964. Nike was first known as Blue Ribbon Sports and was founded by the University of Oregon track athlete Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman who was Phil's coach at the time. You only have a certain amount of time on this big blue rock so you should try to make your mark before your time is up. It makes good use of the ethos pathos and logos format also. The just do it slogan can connect with customers emotionally, making them motivated and inspired. I think that is a really good way they used pathos in this advertisement. Also, I feel like it's important to use stuff in the ads that emotionally connects the customer with the product. It’ll make them want to purchase that item even more or recommend it to friends or family. Also, they do a good job with ethos in this ad. They have a lot of credibilities because first they are a well-known trusted brand and they have been in business for decades and are known for producing good quality material. You might be wondering what could be so ominous about the Nike slogan “Just Do It”. Well, I think there's quite a bit to talk about and I think the people knew what they were doing when they chose that slogan. You see, nowadays everything is affected by status. Everyone is obsessed with the latest fashion, the newest cars, or having the most followers on social media. But I feel like fashion plays a bigger part. The biggest part of this argument. What a person wears is like looking at a brief summary of someone's personality. People wear tons of different things but the most worn is Nike. In the years 2021 and 2022 Nike made the most sales than any other clothing brand. Brands like Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and Chanel were all unable to reach the sales Nike had reached. I think I can explain why that is the case. Picture this, you are in a Macy's at the mall and you see to black long sleeve shirts. The one to the left is a plain black long-sleeve with no logo and let's say it’s about 14.99. The one on the right is a black long-sleeve with the Nike slogan “Just Do It” for about 39.99. Both are made out of the same material. Now, which one would you get… Most people will say Nike because it's a brand they know and can trust.
