Why Fundraise? Non-profits, high school athletic departments, and many other organizations conduct fundraisers. These organizations conduct these fundraisers for many different reasons. The most obvious reason for fundraisers is to generate revenue. However, these fundraisers also increase awareness of the brand, build relationships, and generate non-monetary support.

In 2016-2017, 19% of interscholastic athletic departments relied on fundraisers to generate at least half of their athletic department budget (Hoffman, 2018). Without funds, athletic departments would cease to exist in high schools. The goal should be to develop lifetime friends of the organization. Weinstein (2013) states, “At its heart, fundraising is the art of nurturing relationships” (p.2). Hosting fundraisers provides individuals in the community to interact with members of the organization and develop personal relationships. They also provide an opportunity to move individuals into the closer circle which will result in more substantial donations (Weinstein, 2013, p. 5-6).
