The poem that I chose is Ghost Dance by Sara Littlecrow-Russell. The title is something that sounded familiar to me, but the reason I chose to read this poem originally was that it told a story rather than describing something, someone, or a feeling, which had been a common theme among the poems that I had been browsing. I also knew that I wanted to recite a poem that used a more low tone rather than an upbeat one, which is something that the majority of this poem had. Subtle and major tone changes and pauses were more easily visualized for me while reading this the first few times more than some of the previous poems I had read. Finally, I had realized that the poem is something that I already had some knowledge on from another class that I had been taking during the year.

National Junior Honors Society Essay By: Megan Pacchioli I am very excited by the opportunity to represent my school as a member of the National Junior Honors Society. Both in and out of school I support the Five Pillars of the NJHS, which are scholarship, service, citizenship, character, and leadership. As well as taking part in my communities activities, being a responsible person, and manifesting my leadership on the court/field out of school.
I would like to become an active member of Carrboro High School’s National Honor Society in order to benefit my community through service. I am immensely committed to serving and improving my community, as I have made distinctly clear with my 143 service hours. Through these service hours, I have focused on the improvement of the future community by helping disenfranchised refugee children coming from horrible living conditions in Western Africa, by teaching children about biology, chemistry, and scientific history, by preparing freshmen for their high school careers, by raising money to protect and aid voiceless animals hurt in car crashes and other human infringements, and by creating rain gardens, planting food crops, and decreasing Carrboro High School’s environmental
I have worked so hard in school waiting for a moment like this. UNCW would be a great challenge for me, but it would also help me out immensely. UNCW has a excellent education program and that is exactly the field of study I aim to go into. I spent approximately half of my sophomore year at the early college tutoring at Dobson Elementary. I cherished every second helping my fifth grade class.

My name is Xavier Lira and I am a devoted, empathetic individual who has developed an earnest passion for helping others. I am the son of two hardworking immigrant parents who sacrificed the life they knew in Mexico with the hope of a better tomorrow for their children. I am the son of my softhearted mother and resilient father who taught me the importance of appreciating life and pursuing happiness. I was raised to use my morality as a better judgment and taught to be grateful for the life I was blessed with, especially when times were difficult. This lesson was mainly demonstrated to me when my family and I did not have a place to call home after nearly losing my father in a work-related accident.

My greatest accomplishment was achieving the highest level of Hawaiian language at my former private Hawaiian school. Before I was accepted into my former school for seventh grade, I always had a passion for learning the Hawaiian language. My family spoke basic Hawaiian phrases, which inspired me to fluently learn my mother tongue. I then applied to Kamehameha Schools—a school that teaches students fluent Hawaiian. My passion to learn Hawaiian language motivated me to try me best during the testing and interview process.
