I am eager to attend the USNA Summer STEM due to my strong interest in all disciplines of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. My future plan is to attend the United States Naval Academy, study Nuclear Engineering and serve my country for life. Over the past six years, I have served my country in the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps. I have accumulated a vast knowledge of the STEM field during my numerous week long trainings at Naval Base Coronado, MCB Camp Pendleton, SS Lane Victory, & Pt. Mugu Naval Air Station.
Over my short, seventeen-year lifetime, I have had passions in many areas, from geography to soccer to leadership. However, as I have grown older, I have had a growing passion for the schools in my area because they taught me everything that I know and have given me all the opportunities that I have taken advantage of. Because of this growing passion, I became involved in two very important organizations that influence the future of the Sartell – St. Stephen School District: the Community Schools Planning Initiative and the Sartell – St. Stephen Board Of Education. The Community Schools Planning Initiative was launched at the start of 2015 in order to come up with a vision for the future of the Sartell – St. Stephen School District and a plan to match that
In high school, I was a member of the STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) magnet program. I completed the Project Lead the Way (PLTW) pathway and took a wide variety of engineering classes. I also got experience job shadowing’s and explore different activities that prepared me for my future career with activities such as mock interviews and resume writing. During my junior summer in high school, I got the opportunity to intern at a small engineering firm (Infrared Tools LLC) and work side by side with the engineers there getting hands on experience. This past semester I’ve been a student at Virginia Tech as a member of the Corps of Cadets and enrolled in Air Force ROTC.
Essay 2 Polk State Lakeland Gateway to College High School Program is the only program in my knowledge that allow students to graduate with both an AA degree and a high school diploma. I am interested in this program because I will have to opportunity to grow academically and learn from the older students who attend Polk State. Since I have problems with socializing, I feel that attending college with mature students would help me become comfortable speaking to others and making new friends.
I am interested in joining GOAL Academy in its quest to provide students with alternative pathways to complete their high school education. This is sparked by my experience with students who require a different path to school success, including my work with at-risk secondary students in alternative programs and my own children, who benefitted from online education options. All can thrive given the structure offered by your program. Your passion to remove barriers and support students is something I share, both as a parent and a teacher.
Being selected and serving in The National Honor Society would truly be a honor. Being selected into this program would be important to me because of the opportunities it offers. I have heard of The National Honor Society but never had to the chance to serve in it. This being my first time would really allow me to immerse myself in beneficial learning and serving along side my peers. I will be able to expand my leadership skills while being able to serve my community that I longing wanted to give back to because of all it has given me throughout my life here in Columbus.
I want you to know that school is pretty easy for me. Last year I was a part of National Junior Honor Society. My grade point average was a 3.6. I was ninth in my class. I like to play sports.
Upward Bound has taught me so many valuable lessons and how to manage my time wisely. The people that helped me at school and club have made me want to further my education and come back with a college degree. Mr.Hardeman showing me what hard work can do for you and pursue your goals. I regard the STEM Academy as an extremely positive program that will significantly help my peers and myself in the future. Science has many stimulating topics that have helped our world to advance. The STEM program will definitely push me towards the science aspects of life, allowing me to become more educated in the subject. I hope to be able to join the STEM academy to gain more knowledge in the fields of science and math, to be able to collaborate with others more efficiently, work independently, and to be triumphant in being the best student I can. I want to achieve beyond what is expected in an average student and expand on all my skills.
The Capstone Center for Student Success provides advising and support for students who may need additional educational assistance. The goal of the Capstone Center is to be able to help student transition to UA smoothly. Director of the Capstone Center for Student Success, Mr. Smith has been committed to give the resources and the support for his students to be successful. Focusing on students who may struggle to be a freshman at UA based on their GPA, ACT or SAT, and high school class rank. Building a relationship, students feel comfortable communicating family, financial, and academic issues.

It is an honor to be nominated for the National Junior Honor Society. I believe that being in NJHS will help me continue to work toward and achieve my goals of developing my social, and leadership skills as well as community involvement, all of which will be beneficial in the future. Being in NJHS would be a great opportunity for me to be surrounded by others who share similar goals and aspirations. My overall goal for the 2017- 2018 school year is to motivate children to be all they can be. I want to be a role model that inspires and encourage students to strive for greatness. I will plan to focus on strategies they will build students academically, socially, and emotionally. I plan on focusing on good behavior versus bad behavior. I will use simple behavior management strategies that will help promote appropriate behavior in my classroom.
I believe I am the right student for Academy of the Redwoods because I am a hardworking person and I enjoy challenging myself academically. I want to set myself up for academic success, and I believe that Academy of the Redwoods is a place where I can achieve it. I am dedicated to my schoolwork and I always try my best. I enjoy reaching and setting academic goals for myself to know that I am always growing. I believe I could be an asset to your school.
As a dreamer and queer woman of color, pursuing a career in STEM has been quite challenging. But I have never let anything get in the way of reaching my goals and dreams. I have swam against the current in order to be where I am today, where I have dreamt of being. I am currently a second year student at Trinity Washington University majoring in biochemistry and minoring in mathematics. I am a dedicated student and an analytical and skilled critical thinker who is eager to learn.
My educational goal is to earn a degree in Biology and Spanish from the University of California, Riverside, in hopes of getting a job inside the laboratory department at Kaiser. Based on labs that I have already done at the University, I found that I enjoy working in a similar setting. I would love to have the opportunity to shadow a connoisseur in a similar work environment, as it would be a valuable learning experience. I come from a low-income family in Oakland, California. The economic barrier that has restricted my family has prevented us from moving out from where we live.
