One of the professors in the module pointed out that there is a line between remediation and compensation. Schools tend to focus heavily on remediation and that can send a message to the child when they continue to struggle that they can’t learn. Another reason is that assistive technology can improve the functional skills of a student, which helps the student succeed academically.
3. Why is it important to consider both AT devices and services?
It is important both AT and services because while it is good for the student to have the device, if the student does not know how to use it nor do the people in setting that help implement the AT device it is not going to work for well for student. All parties must be involved in learning to use the device efficiently and monitor the progress of the student with the device.
