Your research question is one most nurses have questioned at some point in their career. I have felt the feeling of annoyance and dread when starting my shift and realizing that my elderly patient has an IV that was placed 4 days ago, and per policy it must be changed today. Sticking the patient again for a new IV seems cruel when the old is still functioning correctly. Many times, I have questioned if the benefits really outweigh the risks of starting a new IV simply because the old is expired.
The two Evidence Based Practice models that I decided to compare are the Johns Hopkins Nursing model and the ACE Star model. The Johns Hopkins Nursing model “helps bedside nurses translate evidence to clinical, administrative, and educational nursing practice” ( p. 302). The Johns Hopkins Nursing model focuses on nursing and nursing practice. The model helps nurses translate evidence-based practice into practice and enhances nursing autonomy, leadership, and engagement with interdisciplinary colleagues (). While on the other hand the ACE Star model focuses taking several forms of knowledge and turning it into evidence-based practice.
The term six research theory course, NURS 495, emphasized the importance of nurse leadership and how nurses can influence positive changes in health care delivery to patients with chronic illness. It also explored the contradictions that exist in nursing practice and encouraged the students to develop a critical and pragmatic approach to client care. The co-requisite clinical course, NURS 499, integrated nursing theory and current best practice on an acute care nursing unit at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. In this consolidated learning analysis, I will explore a nursing practice event that will illustrate the major issues surrounding the treatment of competing mental health comorbidities in a patient with hoarding behaviors.

The term Evidenced-based practice (EBP) is one of the most talked about concepts in healthcare. Nursing scholars, worldwide, have sought to provide healthcare workers with the evidence from research to be transform this into clinical care. To ease this transference of data into practice, scholars have developed EBP models. These models direct the researcher with the process from hypothesis to implementation of the data. The perplexity of EBP is that the data can come from research, clinical experience, patients, or local context and environment (Rycroft-Malone, et al., 2012).
In studying Registered Nursing one will find that they have to be compassionate and want to care for others. Registered Nurses assist physicians with suffering patients of any medical condition. They help to decide the patient’s medicine, treatment, recovery, and educate the them and their families on post-medical treatment. They need to have bedside manner, and be able to prepare patients for surgery. Registered Nursing careers range anywhere from critical care, oncology, mental health, to an everyday school nurse.
Nursing research is providing evidence used to support nursing practices, generate new knowledge, and promote evidenced-based nursing practice, ensure credibility of nursing profession, provide accountability for nursing practice and document effectiveness of nursing care. The practice of nursing evolves daily from theories and philosophies that are proven by researchers, resulting in growth of the medical profession and advanced evidence based knowledge. Philosophies According to Alligood (2014b), philosophies are specific theories that focus on one or more metaparadigm concepts in a wide spectrum philosophical way (p. 43). For a person to understand philosophies it is required to understand the knowledge type, metaparadigms. Metaparadigm Metaparadigm is the vast perspective of a discipline and a way to describe a concern specifically to a profession or department (Alligood, 2014b, p.42).
Introduction This essay is a reflective piece of writing about the critical indecent of a medication error that occurred during my placement. It is a very concise piece of writing due to limited word count of 1500 words. Duke and Appleton (2000) did a literature review and devised a framework of critical reflection, which illustrates eight stages as compare to Gibbs’s (1998) reflective model that consist of six stages. I chose Gibbs reflective model not only it is easy to comprehend but also to illustrate a critical incident.
The decision to become a nurse was not a life-long calling for me. I did not know from a young age that when I grew up I wanted to be a nurse. It took years of life experiences and well-timed events that propelled me to this point. While reflecting on the media file “One is too many” (CNO, College of Nurses of Ontario, 2005) I had the opportunity to reflect on the reason I chose to be a nurse while observing the behaviors of the character portrayed and was brought back to a personal experience I had when visiting hospitals as a patient.
I had learned so much from this class that I will take with me into my nursing career. During this course, I was able to think critically and tried understand what is like to be old. I am happy to say that my results were outstanding and I think the information that I had acquired from doing the internet explore on many different topics will be useful to me in the future. I work in a nursing home and I love helping people with their activities of daily living. Many people that I helped have amazing stories to tell about their life and the things they had done.
During these past weeks at the Archbold ER, I had the opportunity to put into practice many of the content learned in class. This included but was not limited to the proper placement of a Foley catheter using sterile techniques, insertion of an NG tube, and assessment of patients. Even though I attempted to complete some of my initial goals for this internship, I noticed that I couldn’t complete a few of them due to lack of time and lack of experience in the field. Therefore, some of my goals that I’ll need to address during the following three weeks include improve my assessment skills, have better communication with my patients, and improve my questioning to get a better understanding of the cause that brought them in. Evolution from Novice to a Beginning Professional Nurse Looking back when I started my nursing school, I can proudly say that I have evolved both physically and psychologically. I was not sure if nursing was the right choice for me at first because I had difficulties interacting with people outside my family circle. The first semester was challenging for me because I did not know how to interact with my class mates and felt isolated each time there is a class activity. I joined a study group later that semester and it has been an excitement ever since.
