How can nurses gain increased marketability of their nursing expertise?

These are some ways which can help nurses gain marketability of their nursing expertise:
1. Actively working on the clinical ladder and attending actives on the unit or in the hospital that improve nursing care, such as attending unit meetings, serving unit committees, mentoring new personnel, and participating in hospital based improvement programs.
2. Volunteer activities in the community are also a good way to keep nurses connected to the world of health care and show their passion in nursing care and for serving the community. This also helps a nurse easily develop relationships with healthcare professionals from the community who may become excellent references for future career opportunities.
3. Continuing education is one of the most helpful tools a nurse can use to earn more knowledge and to improve quality care for their patients in daily practice. With consistent growth of medical advancements, new treatments and techniques, new medication for new …show more content…

Seeking positions, working in specialty areas such as adults or neonate intensive care unit, oncology, cardiology, and becoming certified in that area. For a new nurse, working in a specialty area right out of school is challenging but not impossible. I was a new nurse one year ago and thought the best way to gain experience and promote myself within my nursing career was to work in a specialty area in an acute care setting hospital. However, some of my friends started their nursing career in long-term care or home health and when working again with them in the hospital after 1 year, I feel they are very knowledgable and easily caught up with patients' needs and challenges with different communication skills, especially within the elderly population that I can not learn from the hospital setting. I believe long-term care or home health is also a good place for a new nurse to gain increased marketability of their nursing
