Nursing Assistant Personal Statement

I want to become a professional in the Public Health field mainly to inform, educate, and help the community help themselves in this new world where diseases and health crisis are on the rise. I always felt as though this field chose me. At the age of fifteen, I was diagnosed with the autoimmune disease Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. Ten years ago, there weren't many types of research or information to help inform people living with this chronic illness. No help on how to keep the body functioning at an optimum level or how to help with the inflammation lurking throughout without only medication. I honestly feel that at fifteen if I was correctly informed and educated as well as I am now, I could have possibly helped myself from reaching the severity of this flare I am currently undergoing. I decided I wanted to be more behind the scenes and help others without them even realizing it. I don't want the recognition just the ability to make a difference. Throughout my undergrad career as a pre-med student, I was a certified nursing assistant working in a nursing home and it was so fulfilling for me to be able to these people get through their daily tasks that used to be so easy for them to accomplish. After that position came to an end I knew I still wanted to work in the field but maybe in a different way. I then volunteered in a medical/research lab during my undergrad career and earned my certification as a Certified Laboratory Assistant.
