This degree will acclaim myself as a registered nurse, this type of nurses are responsible for caring and educating patients about their current conditions and at best to help them improve by carrying out duties such as to “perform physical exams, provide health promotion, administer medications” (nursingworld.org) and much more. I strongly envision that this career choice fits properly for me. The decision to be someone that cares for people, someone who needs to commit to learn, someone designed to have the hunger to work further only seems justifying for myself. The inspiration to be this someone came from my parents, teachers, friends and especially coaches. My parents who always remind me to be the finest caretaker I can be in this big family, my teachers, specifically one of them is Ms.Kelly,who influences me to always output my best self and reminds me that I can reach heights in life, my loving friend, Austyn Ah Choy, who never fails to note to me that I have the ability to show everyone that I can achieve greatness, and lastly my softball coaches who never give up on me and who help build my engagement towards hard work.
Certified nursing assistants are in charge of a myriad of tasks related to patient care, saving, and bettering the lives of others. However, the conditions and demands of this job raise questions such as, what are the challenges of being a CNA? My Intent to Be a Nurse Practitioner Coming from a third world country where there aren’t many opportunities for work and funding for education, proceding to nursing school was a grand opportunity. The privilege to attend a government subsidized school where top students in the region compete to get into the program that allowed only 60 students per year was indeed a blessing. As clinical rotations began, what was once considered a mere opportunity evolved into a true passion for caring as I truly love and enjoy nursing and helping people.
My childhood initiated a desire to help prevent and mitigate injury or illness; this soon flourished into an interest in the health care field. To help narrow my choices I explored as many science courses as I could. Talking with health care professionals and reading nursing textbooks I found in my aunt’s house piqued my interest in the nursing field and patient care. From there, I completed a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) course which further solidified my decision. Now, I am fully invested in becoming a nurse.
I am very interested in the position as a Registered Nurse for the Medical Oncology Infusion clinic available on the Memorial Hospital of Gulfport website. As a dedicated Registered Nurse with a 30-year span of experience, I believe I would be an asset for this position and the clinic team. My work experience includes Medical/Surgical nursing at acute care setting, a busy Ambulatory Clinic for three surgeons for two years, 10 years at Outpatient Surgery Center, three years as a Community Outreach Cancer nurse and much more. My skill sets are the strong ability to assess patients using the nursing process and principles, knowledge of the many procedures and protocols, proficient with using clinic equipment, multitasking to meet patients and family needs, to think critically during procedures and in emergencies, and interpreting and following instructions from the physicians.
I would have loved to start this personal statement by stating that nursing has always been a passion or mine that was solidified by a prolific experience in my life. However, that was not my journey, I have thought long and hard before deciding to apply to nursing school. Growing up and learning about the medical field, whether it had be my own personal experiences or media portrayals. The symbiotic relationship between nurses and doctors was always known. It was only when I fully immersed myself into the medical field did I realize differences between each role, the value of working a part of a team, and the significant changes one can make in someone’s life by conversation.
I decided to apply to the University of Wisconsin-Madison because of their nursing school’s collaboration with scientists and renowned researchers across the UW-Madison campus, the nation, and the world. This school will help me network with the best researchers and scientists whom I can learn and grow from. The university is the third largest research university in the country and will help me further my career in research as a nursing student. Research is very important in the nursing field due to the fast growing pace of diseases and illnesses. There needs to be new techniques in developing cures and care plans, especially treatment that are unique to each individuals’ needs.
I chose to pursue the teaching field because of my experience training new nurses and C.N.A.’s at the nursing home I previously worked at. There were students that would come to observe and learn the procedures and skills needed to work in a nursing home. My bosses knew to send them to me because they saw the passion I had for teaching skills in the nursing field. So when I knew that I was going to have those students, I became overjoyed because I knew that as they learned, I was actually making a difference in their careers in the medical field. The passion for teaching began early for me in life.
I was not born into the world to do everything, but I was born into the world with great intentions; intentions to make a difference, to be an outstanding leader, ambassador, and advocate to serve and give back to the society. My lifetime aspiration and ambition is to become a Labor and Deliveries nurse . With that being said, I have the desire to pursue a Bachelor's degree in the science of Nursing. I have been fascinated and determined to have the positive sense of being so kind hearted for others and making them feel beloved . The undertaking of achieving this goal has taken quite a big reasonable part of my life at a young age. During this time, I noticed the difference in care provided between the doctor and the nurse. The nurse offered a more trusting relationship, emphasized the use of holistic care, and provided empathy, which was much appreciated. Thereafter, I began volunteering at Lowell General Hospital and experienced my own interpersonal relationships with the outpatients. I felt truly satisfied during my time there, as I was able to apply my values and experience the gratitude and warmth that radiated from each patient that I helped. It took me a while to find nurses that wanted to participate in my interview. I was able to interview 2 nurses at a medical center because this week at my private practice, with the help of an Ecuadorian Audiologist who has ABR/ASSR system, we had a Microtia week from all over Bolivia and one of the mother’s was a nurse assistant, she made the contact with her boss and I was able to interview both, yesterday. This has been a great opportunity to determine if nursing is the career for me. At this point I am certain that nursing is for me. A part of my ROP nursing class, I help at a nursing home once a week for four hours. This has given me an insight of the advantages and the disadvantages of nursing. I honestly think that making a person’s life more comfortable outweighs the disadvantages.
This world needs more compassion, love, help, and smiles. And I believe Nursing is a career that has to be about helping others, and doing it nicely. I have been a fulltime student since I started college, I have passed all my classes, and I will be applying to nursing school in January, and if I get accepted in the program I will be starting school in the fall in Texas. Am also working; it is my first time since I started college. I work with a company that gives care services to Autistic children.
I came to the decision that I wanted to become a nurse by looking into the current high demand and knowing that the need for them will continue to increase in the future. Nurses do a variety of things to improve a patient’s health and interact with them on many levels
