The initial writing summary assignment was very intriguing to me because it hit home for me. I have been a licensed nurse for twenty-one years. I was a licensed practical nurse for seven years. I graduated from Community College of Philadelphia associate degree registered nurse program in May of 2001. I returned back to school in 2005 and did not complete my degree at that time. The irony is the only plan I ever had as a high school student was to initially obtain my baccalaureate degree in nursing and continue my education until I earned my doctorate in nursing. I didn’t even know that a licensed practical nurse existed. I stumble upon this career opportunity when I met a license practical nurse in my college years. I have mixed feelings about this topic because in my years of experience I have worked with, supervised and mentor many nurses of various degree levels (even nurses with their master degree pursuing advanced nursing specialties, such as Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner). There were many nurses with advanced degrees that were very well versed in their field. On the other hand, many nurses possessed associates degrees, diplomas and even licensed practical nurses that were excellent not only with patient care but with critical think which improves the patient 's overall
