Background
Nursing has been around due to women taking care of their children and family ever since the beginning. The first nurses were known as wet nurses who nursed orphaned infants or nursed infants whose mothers could not nurse their own child (Weatherford). Home nursing was common during the 1700’s which allowed wet nurses to live with their employer. The Civil War resulted in construction of hospitals which helped develop nursing to become a profession. The Civil War gave greater respect to nurses.
The increasing of respect led Civil war nurses to receive pensions from a bill passed in 1892 by Congress (Weatherford). From then on, nurses left homes of employers and traveled to hospitals where the numbers of patients increased. As nurses began to become more needed, many nursing schools were established in the late nineteenth century.

I enjoy studying the human body and learning how it works. I currently am in Honors Anatomy and English and have been able to keep high grades in both classes. Science is an important class to achieve because nursing is all about the understanding of the human body. Since I have a strong background with science, this provides me a strong foundation, so when I get to the next level of schooling, college, I will remember what I have learned and therefore build on the knowledge which was told to me by my interviewee.
Last but not least of a strength I have grabbed hold of is attentiveness. Being aware of my surroundings and situations going on, it is a good idea to know what is happening. Being focused will allow me to correctly analyze data and create plans to heal a patient. While volunteering at Virtua, the director noticed how focused I was and acknowledged me on a board in the hospital. Attentiveness is important, especially when administering medication to patients, overdosing will lead to a lawsuit as well as
