Theories are made up of concepts. Concepts are used to develop theories as well as enhance practice. Simultaneously, theory plays a role in the development of the meaning of a concept.
Concept analysis and theory development are the factors that drives us to improve our practices.
Theory, research and practice affect each other continuously and are interdependent among each other. Theory is what defines nursing, as well as, the framework and guidelines of what nurses need to know. Many of these theories are developed from practice and experience, as well as the knowledge, skills and abilities nurses develop over time. Nursing is a continuous cycle of research, practice and theory and furthermore, all three are necessary to ensure that the patients are getting the best care possible. “The interrelation among theory, research, and clinical practice is required for continuous development of nursing as a profession and science. Ideally, the practice must be based on theory that is validated by research. Therefore, theory, research, and practice affect each other reciprocally and continuously” (Bousso, Roles, Lopes, & Cruz, 2014). For nursing to function appropriate all these concepts should be present and cycling on a continual basis. Practices, research and theories change and evolve constantly. Nurse need to change accordingly to make sure we are implementing the best care through the development of new concepts and theories. …show more content…
