Nutrition
(1.1) David, a 15 year old boy, participates in lots of sport. David must ensure he has a balanced diet which requires an intake of various nutrients via both diet and fluids. If David does not consume a balanced diet he will become unhealthy or may acquire various deficiencies. Without nutrition David would eventually die. Nutrients allow David’s body to function properly - to move, grow, respire, reproduce, excrete and for his senses (irritability) to work.

Movement ensures that David’s muscles and joints work. His muscles will contract and detract enabling his joints to move.

Growth is not limited to height and/or weight, David needs cells within his body to divide, accumulate and expand. Muscles, bones and vital organs continue …show more content…

Carbohydrates also help to build muscles which in turn will help to boost David’s sportsmanship.
Lipids/Fats Roasted lamb, potatoes Lipids are needed to be part of David’s intake as it is stored beneath the skin and acts as a protective layer for his bones and vital organs. Lipids also provide insulation for David’s body to keep it at the core temperature of 37 degrees.

(Wilson, L. (2014)) Proteins are a chain of molecules called amino acids, there are 20 different amino acids and the body requires all of them. David needs proteins as they will aid the appropriate growth of his muscles and bone structure. Structural proteins within David’s body include cartilage as well as keratin that helps to form the skin. As David plays a lot of sport he will need to ensure that if he has an accident or is wounded that his blood is able to clot and withstand any excessive bleeding, proteins will be able to aid in the process of blood clotting to prevent this from occurring. The majority, if not all, of the hormones within David’s body - including insulin are produced from the intake of protein within his
