Obesity is one of the concerned issues in the United States for the people and the health professionals. According to data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), 2013–2014, “More than 1 in 3 adults were considered to have obesity and among non-Hispanic Asian adults, about 1 in 8 (12.6 percent) were considered to have obesity.” The obesity rate increases over time causing to be harmful for children. Asian children are prevalent of obesity due to socioeconomic status, lack of nutritious food and inadequate physical activity.

On the chart above from “Obesity and Overweight Among Asian American Children and Adolescents” shows that Asian American children and adolescents have prevalence of overweight. Children from age 9- 19 has overall higher percentage of overweight than children 2- 8. These can go higher if right steps are not taken. The food contains salt, fat and sugar instead of nutrition. To get cheap and tasty food, parents buy the unhealthy fast food. Some can not afford the organic fruits and vegetables for their family. The ingredients leads to children obesity instead of providing nutrition. Working parents decides to go to work leaving their children with food choices like pizza, soda, cookies etc; these satisfies the need of both parents and children. Parents do not worry about children being hungry and children are also happy with junk food. Instead of drinking plain water, children substitue them with soda and other beverages which contains sugars, unhealthy for health.
