As the United States of America continues to grow as a country economically, culturally, and educationally, so have the people... physically. Literally, both children and adults are growing in weight at a substantial rate. According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), approximately 36 percent of adults in the United States are considered to be obese, and a little more than 6 percent of people have extreme obesity. For men, almost three out of four are considered to be overweight or obese. Most importantly, the prevalence of obesity is the same for both men and women, which is about 36 percent. In 2016 not enough procedures have been done to slow this problem down. We are talking about an epidemic developing right in front of the nation. According to the textbook, obesity can lead to an increase risk of heart disease, type II diabetes, high blood pressure, certain cancers, and other chronic conditions.

It is a topic that as I have grown I still have yet to understand. It is one that when I was growing up, my dad always shot down the topics of depression and anxiety. Unfortunately, it is one that has led to the sudden deaths of three people that I went to high school with, two of them while they were in medical school. Nearly 50 percent of Americans will develop a mental health illness during their life time. It is seen every day, whether it is someone suffering from anxiety or substance abuse, everyone knows someone in pain and in distress. Yet, with so many symptoms overlapping each other, it is fair to say that at times it is very difficult to keep track at what exactly is going on with that person. Which is why it is very imperative that anyone who feel or looks as if they are suffering from a mental health disorder must go to a doctor and be diagnosed accurately so that they can receive the proper treatment to help them fight their
