Obesity in Brevard County
The social issue that I will discuss is the topic of obesity and how obesity functions in our society today. Obesity refers to the condition of having an excessive amount of body fat. If an individual’s amount of body fat becomes too excessive, he/she is at a much greater risk of developing life-altering diseases such as heart failure, hypertension, type II diabetes, cancer, gallbladder disease, osteoarthritis and many other issues that accumulate from this massive gain in mass. According to the Health Council of Eastern Central Florida, twenty-three percent of the population of Brevard County residents had been classified as overweight or obese. In these findings as well it was also a shock to discover that according to a PRC survey from two-thousand and six, people in between the ages of zero to nineteen had reached twenty-nine point four percent in boys and nine …show more content…

By these disturbing facts, it is completely apparent that obesity is rapidly becoming an issue in our local society as well as a massive pandemic all around the world. Obesity is growing to be a massive headache for many Floridians and Americans alike. As America continues to have the second largest population of obese people (a whopping thirty-three point one percent), Brevard County citizens continue to be on the uptick as well because of many lifestyle changes that us as people make to conform to the convenience of fast food as well as the underperforming financial areas in the area that force individuals to do so. Health officials in the area and all around the nation are educating the public to try and tell others of the risks of this disease to prevent the increase of obesity to larger numbers as predicted by the Centers of Disease
