Obesity is an extensive problem in the United States. “25% of children in poorer areas are obese, compared to about 11% in more affluent areas”(Ellen). This is surprisingly true. You would assume that impoverished people would not have sufficient calorie intake, and become underweight opposed to overweight. People believe the amount of activity level or food consumption leads to obesity, while others believe financial standings causes obesity. These are controversial among researchers, health professionals, or nutritionists. SNAP helps impoverished people to eat healthier with the help of financial security. When people are trying to change their health they are not obligated to do it all at once. People can create minor goals to change their health over time (Romito). One change that is beneficial is to change social and physical living environments in communities. Changing how the community eats can encourage others around them to eat healthier too. For example, if you just heard that your family member had lost 50 pounds by just eating healthier, you might want to try eating healthier to achieve a better lifestyle. To change physical living environments in communities, you could create an activity that the whole community could do together once a week or once a month. This would encourage people to start exercising more and eat healthier. Changing their social and physical living environments show that it is easier to encourage people to eat healthier than to help them afford it (Park). Another change that they could do is monitor correct essential nutrient intake each day. Having too much of one essential nutrient could damage their health and lead to obesity. Monitoring what they eat will help establish what nutrients they are having too much or too little of. The use of SNAP helps users afford more foods they originally couldn't, which is why it is necessary to encourage users to do so. They will feel better and this will lead to a healthier life.
