The lifestyle of human beings has changed over the years and obesity statistics have been increasing rapidly worldwide. The technological revolution has a huge impact on the increasing statistics of obesity and these technological factors have created distractions of which our generation is no longer active in outdoor activities. In our modern world, with increasingly cheap, high calorie food, prepared foods that are high in salt, sugars or fat, combined with our inactive lifestyles, increasing urbanisation and changing modes of transport has caused obesity statistics to rapidly increase in the last few decades around the world. Obesity also affects the poor due to things like marketing of unhealthy foods. Many people end up starving themselves in order for them to lose weight fast but this is unhealthy as it could lead to other diseases such as: anorexia nervosa and bulimia, which are risky and highly fatal. There are many alternatives that people suffering from obesity can use. A diet that has been tested a couple of times, has become the talk of the town. The Banting diet was developed by William Banting who was a fine carpenter and undertaker to the rich and famous, during the 19th century. William Banting came up with the Banting diet when he became obese in his thirties. He then went to a doctor where he was told to cut down on carbohydrates and focus more on eating proteins.
