Observational Study: Eastland Mall Food Restaurant

My observational study took place at the Eastland Mall food court on a Thursday evening, and there weren’t very many people to choose from. I decided to get in line for China Experience while I waited for someone that I could observe. While in line in was behind two young men who were most likely just getting some food after shopping. It wasn’t until I heard one of the men paying for his friend’s food, that I decided to follow them, and sit at a nearby table to observe what I could. I sat one table back, and diagonal from the two friends. I chose to do my observations on the young man who paid for his friend’s dinner. I observed pretty quickly that they were more than likely just friends, by their interactions with one another. By hearing some of their interactions up close in the food line, I was able to make more connections to other correlating subjects in this observational study. The man was African American, and appeared to be in his mid to late twenties, most likely around twenty-four. This was also based on the appearing age of his friend, which was a little older, probably twenty-six. He looked to be about 5 feet and 9 inches tall. I approximated that he was about 178 pounds. He wasn’t very big, but he had a muscular body type, which led me to believe that he was probably a pretty active person, and was involved with some kind of exercising (p. 305). He was very fluent in his movements leading me to believe that he was fully developed in fine motor skills. Although he seemed very alert, he didn’t move much. I could see him looking around at his surroundings, but never acting on what he was seeing.
