Within the novel, We Should Hang Out Sometime, by Josh Sundquist, the character Josh Sundquist has grown and changed through his actions, thoughts, and spoken words. A theme that relates to Josh Sunquist’s growth is self-esteem is important to build relationships. A first claim is showing Josh Sudquist’s growth through his actions. He exhibited awkward behavior with his peers. Furthermore, this is proven through the time which he choose to memorize all of his classmate’s pictures to their faces. Following, meeting Ashley Samsonite for his first time at Local 16, he searched for her Facebook. Evidently, Josh was extremely excited to meet her and was adventurous to find Ashley. “Five Ashley Samsonite’s had accepted my friend request,” (Sundquist 325). Josh transitioned; accordingly, he took more risks and gained confidence as he learned he was the only individual pertaining to an issue with his leg. He felt apprehensive to receive rejection from the women he liked. During the start of the novel he continuously worried for the activities that he participated in; specifically for his leg. Josh thought that he could not burden individuals since he generated rules that he tried not to break. He only pertained one leg consequently he believed women did not like him equally. However, Josh was only insecure with himself. “The problem had been with my believing there was a problem,” (317). Previously he thought his body image was withholding him from achieving a girlfriend.
