Children today are lacking unstructured play--not sports played outdoor--which is the most common way that children experience the outdoors (p. 117). Unstructured play like building forts, constructing tree-houses, sword fighting with sticks and sending leaf “boats” down streams help children problem-solve, be creative and practice their inquiry skills in authentic ways.
