A Democratic senator from Delaware wishes to introduce a piece of legislation that would ban the sale of all handguns. There are several obstacles that this bill will face throughout the whole process of getting the bill passed. Some of these obstacles include being from the state of Delaware, being a Democrat in a Republican majority congress, second Amendment rights, and gun lobbyists such as the National Rifle Association, or NRA. One of the obstacles this senator would face is the fact that he is from Delaware. Delaware is such a small state that not many people really care about. The majority of the Senate and the House of Representatives is Republican, and they would never let this get passed. First, the bill would be introduced into the right committee, and that committee has to pass the bill before it can even make it to the floor for a vote. The committee chairman is the senator who is in charge of a committee, and the chairman is a member of the majority party, which is Republican. Also, all of the committees are made up of the majority party being the majority of the committees. Sa a Democrat senator would have to persuade a Republican majority committee to pass the bill so it can go to the floor of the senate. If by some chance that actually happens then the Democrat would have to persuade the Republicans to vote for the bill to pass. This would never happen, because one the Republicans are against gun control laws, and second the Republicans would use the filibuster to delay the process as long as possible. Even if by some miracle the bill got passed by the Senate, it would then have to go through the whole process again in the House of Representatives, which has a Republican majority. Again, even if somehow the bill got passed by the House of Representatives, it would have to go to the president. There is probably a way to do this, and if there is one, then the Democrats would be the ones who find the loophole. Then there is the National Rifle Association that the Democrats would have to deal with. This would be very difficult because the National Rifle Association would make the bill look as bad as possible, they would conduct studies or examine studies already done to prove how bad a bill like this would be. If the bill got passed, the National Rifle Association would most likely have protests about it, not making it easy at
