Ever since a young age, I’ve always had a desire to work in a profession that dealt with the public’s health. I not only find the subject of health/medicine to be very fascinating to learn about, but as well, growing up in a family filled with health conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and diabetes, the topic of health and medicine was very prominent in my childhood. I’ve always loved helping people, I feel a great sense of fulfillment within myself after helping loved ones during their hardships. I truly don’t believe Occupational Therapy gets enough or as much recognition as it should as a health-related profession. Occupational therapy is so much more than simply an individual participating in therapeutic activities till they gain back their strength and full potential, but it is in my opinion, something much more personal than that. Occupational therapy really incorporates and is based off the client’s personal life at home and what activities they were a part of before their illness occurred. In the end, the goal is to be able to help them physically get their strength to participate in those activities once again, and this is what I truly appreciate about this profession. I have many reasons as to why I have chosen Occupational therapy as my career path, but one of the main reasons is one that I find to be very personal to me. I’ve always had an admiration for becoming an occupational therapist and going into the occupational therapy profession because of my grandmother, who I was very close to and who I considered to be my best friend.
