What is PTSD? PTSD stands for post traumatic- stress disorder. This is something that people are diagnosed with after going through a time period where they have been through something very traumatic. People who are most likely to be diagnosed with this health condition are people who were in the army and once soldiers. Traumatic means to go through something disturbing and emotional. Such as seeing someone die in front of you and you acting different after it. In the book “The Odyssey” I believe that Odysseus was once at a stage where he had PTSD. I say this because I know that throughout all his stories they’re had been times where he seen his people being eaten alive or seeing the soul of his dead mother. Reading this clearly states this was a disturbing moment in which he had to go through. Me personally would say if I had probably gone through this period just as he had I probably would have been diagnosed with this health condition. This was clearly caused from witnessing a trauma scene. Odysseus’s second cause for his PTSD was, seeing the soul of his dead mother. When I was young I lost my mom so I know if I were to see her soul or ghost whatever he seen, it probably would scare me for life also. I mean nobody wants to go through something so harsh and disturbing such as this. So I would honestly understand, why this caused him to have become so violent and aggressive. He began to portray in negative behavior which had been identified as part of his PTSD. In conclusion, I can conclude that the soldiers that had to go through this mental health disorder wish that they could eventually make it all end. Just as Odysseus wished it would have stopped for him also. I have never actually been a victim of PTSD, but I know it’s something I really wouldn’t want to be diagnosed with. It’s the fact that the people who are diagnosed with this disorder have no control over it. It’s such a strong traumatic act that just leaves them with fear and not able to understand why this is happening to them. Does this give you more of an idea on what PTSD is? And how Odysseus
