Steinbeck illustrates the effects of loneliness through the actions, dialogue, and conflict of Crooks. Examples of Crooks’ loneliness are shown through the actions of others. When Curley, Lennie, and Candy are in Crooks’ room, Curley’s wife comes in and states the fact that she could have him lynched so fast (Steinbeck 120-121).
